Bar or Bat?

Creating any custom invitation starts simply with picking a theme, element(s) or color scheme.  Once we determine a foundation for the invitation, we then combine the design ideas to bring your vision to life!

When we at Couture ink, design bar and bat mitzvah invitations we have a blast! We have great brainstorming sessions creating themes, designs, and custom logos that represent our bar and bat mitzvah boys and girls.  Incorporating a theme into a design is a great way to set the tone for your event and to allow your personality to shine through!  Whether you are a sports fan, music buff, art lover, embellisher, etc…we can design your invitation to represent your passion, by still incorporating your favorite design elements.

The invitation featured, was for our bat mitzvah girl, Taylor! She wanted to play in her favorite color purple with her favorite design element, bling!  We based this invitation on a design created by our friends at b.t. elements.  We took the simple but elegant design and added some “Taylor” to it.  We started with a square purple pocket folder, added a silver ribbon and initial tag.  Our printed invitation piece was mounted to a shimmer silver layer, that is then mounted to the pocket folder.  Adding the final touches of two Swarovski crystals and rsvp enclosures to fit into our designated pocket, our Bat Mitzvah invitation was complete!

The Couture ink team is filled with excitement to enter the Mitzvah season once again and are bringing with us new ideas to help set the tone for your dream event! Contact us today to schedule your next appointment!

Foil Stamping is a stamp in the right direction!

We love embellishing period! but we REALLY love embellishing when we are using “foil stamping.”

A little bit of history…

“More than 4000 years ago, there was a practice in ancient Egypt, to hammer and beat gold till it achieved a thinness of only 0.0001 mm. This beat gold was then used to embellish mummies and also in the decoration of arms, coffins, and other substances.

In the Middle Ages, there were mechanical machines that were used for printing. Some monks started using these machines and the beat gold to print their books to classify them. But the gold was not used directly for stamping. First, only the leather bound books were stamped with the machines to emboss the leather. Once the design was created on the leather, the beat gold was added to the stamping by hand.

This was the earliest form of foil stamping and was prevalent till the start of the 19th century. At such time, in order to simplify the addition of beat gold to the stamped design, the gold was fixed on to paper, and entire paper rolls with gold were created. Now, in order to remove the gold from the paper and transfer it to the stamped imprint, heat was used to simplify the process. The heat did the dual job of removing the gold from the paper and also making it stick better onto the intended surface.

As beat gold was very expensive to use, finally at the start of the 20th century, different types of metallic foils started to be produced to be used in place of beat gold for stamping. Thus evolved the process of foil stamping.

Today, foil stamping has found many applications and is increasing in popularity as a method of printing.”source

So anything that is still around from 4000 years ago must be here to stay and we are glad it is!!  We know any event is better with a little bling here and there, right ladies?

If you caught our last blog, you saw we debuted the new exquisite designs from our friends at Dauphine Press!  The main element in most of the designs are using the technique of foil stamping combined with letterpress which they launched in May 2011.

“When we launched foil stamping in May 2011, we started with a traditional palette. Over the past year+, foil paired with letterpress has become very popular here at Dauphine Press. This year with the addition of our new colored foil options {not to mention how fabulous they are with our new duplexing options!}, we can’t wait to see all of the customizations you come up with.”-Dauphine Press

Customizing your own invitation can be difficult, but with the right help at Couture ink and endless design options like foil stamping, you can design away!

Take a look at the different foil colors available from Dauphine Press and we invite you to visit us at Couture ink to start designing your special invitation!

We were so thrilled to have received the new invitation suites and ink colors from our friends at Dauphine Press!  The new suites include various prints brought to life with foil stamping and edge color painting along with letterpress printing!  A combination destined for success!!  The first suite we feature is the amazing CALISTOGA.  This suite highlights a deep impression on the Dauphine Press double-thick premium letterpress stock. The Calistoga suite is the perfect medium between traditional and modern!

Next up is one of our personal favorites here at Couture ink, the FAIRFIELD! Featured in this invitation suite is the romantic lattice pattern in Mist foil.  An exquisite way to add sparkle to your event!  The Luxe Board duplexed stock creates a beautiful canvas for the foil printed pattern and calligraphic typeface. As we know, no outfit is complete without the perfect accessory, which is why our brilliant friends added gold edge painting to complete the ensemble! We are in love!

Another stunning design new to the family, is the STINSON!  An exciting twist to our beloved contemporary style is the layers of textures and metallics into the Stinson suite.  Platinum foil and traditional letterpress ink printed on the new Dauphine Press Elegant duplexed stock makes this the ideal invitation for an elegant affair!

Last but certainly not least, is the HAMILTON suite!  We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!! “This suite is traditional at heart, but oh so contemporary in color and shine. Pairing a rare foil color with colored paper and a punch of matching edge painting is one of our favorite recipes for vintage with a twist.”-Dauphine Press

Being inspired by Joshua Bell

Today was another day of inspiration for us at Couture ink but not in the usual way of inspiration we receive.  We read the story about Joshua Bell, playing incognito at the subway station as an experiment by the Washington Post.

“No one knew it, but the fiddler standing against a bare wall outside the Metro in an indoor arcade at the top of the escalators was one of the finest classical musicians in the world, playing some of the most elegant music ever written on one of the most valuable violins ever made. His performance was arranged by The Washington Post as an experiment in context, perception and priorities — as well as an unblinking assessment of public taste: In a banal setting at an inconvenient time, would beauty transcend?”

We immediately knew that we had to ask ourselves the same question.  Did we allow beauty to transcend during our hectic lives?  Did we appreciate our time and more importantly the time of others?

We couldn’t help but ask, even on a smaller scale, if the guests of our clients appreciate the time that goes into creating and designing of an invitation. Do they see the beauty in the invitation past the physical piece?  Do they recognize the work and effort put into the process?

Well, as we do love our beloved guests, we have to go with, some probably don’t! This, by the way, is not their fault.  We are all guilty of forgetting that many things in life take time and effort to produce.  As a majority, we take for granted the work of others because we do not value our own time to “stop” and let us soak in what has taken place for the gift we received, the letter that was written, the trip involved, the money spent, the lecture given, or maybe even the hurt involved.

Do we take away from this a new perspective???  Yes! We stop “walking” by beauty and start “stopping” to ensure we transcend beauty into our lives each and everyday. Inspiration and beauty awaits us! Happy everything!

Hello!

Hello!  My name is Robin Marino and I am one of the owners of Couture ink, a custom invitation and accessories company located in Ridgefield, New Jersey, just minutes from New York City!  Although we have been around for a few years, this is our first blog!  I know, you’re probably thinking, what took us so long! Our answer, “we don’t have an answer…because we don’t know either!”  Although, in our defense, I will say that our main mission is and always will be, to make our clients our first priority.  Thankfully, we have been blessed by staying busy and keeping that promise!

With that said, we are here now (better late than never) and we are ready to share our work, experiences, and the main objective for this particular blog, our inspirations!

So let us begin!

The CI team shares one goal and that is to pick the brains of our clients in helping them determine the essence of their affair, customizing their design and then delivering them, with what will be the invitation that will set the tone for their event.  This can be a very difficult task for some; however, we always achieve our goals at Couture ink! We do need to give credit to all those who help us achieve that goal and provide us with inspiration everyday.  Whether it be in design, fashion, foods, automobiles, the latest in trends, entertainment…you get the point, our influences are endless!   Our colleagues, fellow stationers, and inspirational bloggers, also help mold our vision, through their work, creativity and insight.  This has contributed to our success on many levels and we continue to be grateful for their artistry.  We now are determined to use this platform to do exactly the same!

What has always been the key in sparking our creativity when creating a custom invitation, is to begin by developing an inspiration board.  A tool that can aid in plotting visual ideas to map out a clear direction to produce a unique invitation.   We keep an eye out for elements that we can carry into a design, such as but not limited to, colors, fabrics, patterns, graphics, typeset, embellishments, and style.  Once all of our findings are on one board, we can now start to visualize an exact concept.  At this point, we can begin to execute a piece of paperware, that will represent a memory for years to come!

The inspiration board above, was the result of a brainstorming effort, which we created based on our clients color scheme of greens and pinks.  We thought the perfect invitation for them would be the featured Larkspur letterpress invitation with gold foil stamping, that was created by our dear friends at Dauphine Press and printed in their sea-foam ink.  Stay tuned for our future blogs to see what Madison and Jonathan pick for their big day!

The Couture ink team is ecstatic to share these adventures with all of you and to allow our blog to be a storybook for each one of our journeys.  Dreaming up the exquisite invitations for our fabulous clients, is a blessing we endeavor everyday at our jobs!
